There's a saying in most professional sports when a Coach has lost the confidence of his/her players. "He/She has lost the room".
In other words, the players don't believe the Coach's methods, tactics. training, philosophies, approach, etc.; and tend to just go out and go through the motions and hope for the best. Enter, one Jurgen Klinnsman, US National Men's Team Coach who quite obviously has 'lost the room'. Last night's debacle against Brazil in Foxboro MA at Gillette Stadium has proven that theory. A 4-1 defeat is a horrendous scoreline--even for a 'Friendly'. Once again, JK sent out an 'experimental' line-up that truly struggled to show any sign of cohesiveness anywhere on the field. In October, we play Mexico in a game that means something....and I don't feel good about our chances. Do you? Sunil Gulati, Head of US Soccer, is bound and determined to stay with Klinnsman as our Coach. Gulati is a highly intelligent man, who knows a bit about soccer (some would say that's the most dangerous kind), and certainly is responsible for Klinnsman's hire. However, (and of course we don't know for sure what has been said, or not said, within the walls of US Soccer) the time has come for Gulati to demand better performance from his Head Coach and Technical Director. All of Klinnsman's claims that we need to change the culture of Soccer in America in order to be successful, need to be put aside and focus needs to return to getting results on the field. And I for one believe that getting results on the field is not Jurgen Klinnsman's strong point as a Coach. As a player? YES! Klinnsman was a SUPERB striker and certainly got results on the field. But as a Coach, I think his unorthodox approach is costing us and him. So Sunil......bring him in, sit him down, and tell him, "If we don't beat Mexico in October, thank you for your service; enjoy your free time, Jurgen." What do YOU think? Let me know. May the ground beneath your dive be soft. May the opposition shoot straight at you. May your goalposts be 3 feet wide. All the Best--EV Well, it's Friday, and Summer's over.
Sorry for the delay--it's been awhile. I have finally concluded the Club pre-seasons (3) and College pre-season (1) and am back on a somewhat regular schedule. Soooooooooooooo. It's Friday and Here's What I Think About That: USMNT v Peru: HWITAT--Klinnsman will roll out a new lineup....AGAIN....and we will be disappointed tomorrow--even if we WIN. The time has come for JK to pick a lineup and stick to it. Too much "mad scientist" coaching going on right now with the USMNT. Saw a tweet today saying that is Klinnsman wants to mirror Europe in the development of the National Team, that if JK draws or loses to Mexico (match to be played later)...he should be fired. I agree. LA Galaxy will win MLS again: HWITAT--Yup. I don't see any team in MLS that can beat the Galaxy come playoff time. Bruce Arena is the best coach in the league, and he has the best team in the league. LA Galaxy Win. Again. Fall is wonderful! HWITAT--Fall is great because of college soccer. Sure, the level is not all that exciting, and the season is way too short for any sort of development, but the passion of players, coaches and fans for college soccer can not be beat! Go watch some college soccer this Fall. It's a great atmosphere, and lots of fun! Labor Day kicks off Youth Club Tournaments: HWITAT--Labor Day is the first of the Youth Club Tournaments. Everyone crowds into the family mini-van and heads out for Showcase, League, and Select Tournaments. Good luck to everyone, and remember....it's a GAME. It was invented for FUN. Have a great time! May the ground beneath your dive be soft. May the other team shoot straight at you. May your goalposts be 3 feet wide! Happy Labor Day Weekend! All the Best--EV |
