1. Chivas USA is no more. MLS has scuttled Chivas USA, and announced yesterday the formation of LAFC (Los Angeles Football Club) to begin competition in 2017. HWITAT: Sorry to see Chivas go, (Danny Kennedy is a great GK and greater guy) but i think it's for the best in the long run. They only averaged 7,000 fans this season. Not good. LAFC? Well, they have a lot of A-list headliner names involved. But as with most things surrounding soccer in the USA........we'll see. Building another stadium (LAFC plans to) will be good.
2. November is moustache month. HWITAT: To build awareness of cancers that are predominantly male oriented--such as prostrate cancer--Moustache November, or Movember has come to prominence. So.....if you can grow a moustache, do it! You have a whole month for your moustache to come to prominence! Those of you who have known me for awhile know that I will sprout my old "squirrel on my face" 'stache. Photos to follow throughout Movember. It's the least I can do....
3. College conference tournaments begin this coming week--many with NCAA tournament berths on the line. Good luck to all the teams still competing for a 'chance in the dance'. HWITAT: As with most sports, the team that gets 'hot' in the playoffs, usually wins the championship. The team that has the 'hot' GK, is usually the team that get 'hot' in the playoffs.
Good luck to many of my coaching friends during the next couple of weeks.
4. Happy Halloween! HWITAT: It is a neat 'holiday', and everyone enjoys it--kids AND adults. Enjoy Halloween tonight, but be smart and safe.
5. USA Rugby plays New Zealand at Soldiers' Field in Chicago tomorrow and the match is sold-out already. HWITAT: It's Rugby folks. A very cool sport, which is growing rapidly in the USA. New Zealand will most likely win--they're the best in the world year-in, year-out--but having a sold-out match in an NFL venue which is nationally televised (NBC Sports Network at 2:30p CT tomorrow, Saturday, November 1, 2014. #building momentum. #watch out soccer.
6. BPL this weekend. Can anyone catch Chelsea? HWITAT: I don't think so. They're up something like 10 points already. Hard to make up points in the BPL. Not a Chelsea fan, but you gotta' admire the start they've gotten off to.
May the ground beneath your dive be soft. May the opponents hit every ball right at you. May your goalposts be 3 feet wide.
All the Best--EV
