Here's What I Think About That (because it's Friday):
I understand the outrage. I support the outrage. But is any governing body stepping up to take the place of FIFA? Could we in the USA do it? Yes, we could--but if we hosted a tournament would anyone come? Most likely. You know why? Because everyone wants to come to the USA. But will we do it? No. We won't because we can't. And Blatter and the FIFA cronies know it. It's all gone on so long that it is woven into our 'soccer fabric'.
Sooooooooo. Where does that leave us? I will still watch World Cup soccer matches and all that; but it will not be the same; and it will be watched with more than a bit of skepticism. And of course, the World Cup Champions will always be under a giant cloud of suspicion. i.e.; Baseball and the steroid era. i.e.; NFL and the domestic abuse era.
It leaves a sour/bad taste in everyone's mouth. Yep, Sepp Blatter....in the interest of promoting the game, you and your wrinkly old minions have done irreparable harm to the game. This won't end until your minions "sing" to the law and you are arrested and put away. And then, hopefully, the Beautiful Game will re-emerge from the mud that you and all of the fat, old, wrinkly, no-life idiots have heaped on the world. (Sounds kinda' like the US Congress, doesn't it?)
May the ground beneath your dive be soft. May the other team shoot straight at you. May your goalposts be 3 feet wide.
All the Best--EV
