It's Friday Blog-lodytes! And as you know it's time for another Here's What I Think About That.....
So....to steal a line from Bud Light, "Here We Go!" (By the way, Budweiser is now owned by a Belgium conglomerate.....Huh?!?!? I say, 'Buy American!'....Go Yuengling! Pottsville, PA)
FIFA Rankings--USA Men down to #31: HWITAT--Wow. Nothing like sinking before you swim. Jurgen Klinsmann has steered the US Men's National Team to the bottom of the 'valley' while claiming all along that he is implementing a grand plan to bring US National Team soccer to glorious new heights. I know that FIFA rankings are not really all that substantial, but we are not looking like we are on the right path to glory here. Klinsmann now has his work cut out for him. We shall see. I have my doubts because it seems like we took some giant strides forward this past Summer in Brazil, only to stumble severely lately. What do you think?
De Gea flirting with Real Madrid and Man U: HWITAT--The rumor mill of transfers has David De Gea of Manchester United in talks with both Real Madrid and Manchester United simultaneously. So, that's what free agency in the BPL and Europe looks like! De Gea has had a great year with Man U and of course has garnered deserved attention from the top Clubs in Europe. Real Madrid is the front-runner of suitors as perhaps Casillas' days at the Spanish giant are numbered. What should De Gea do? I say, go with the money. Either Man U or Real Madrid gives De Gea top-level play and prep for Spain National Team duty. At this point, it's up to the best offer, I think. What do you think? Where will De Gea end up?
MLS Player Strike?: HWITAT--Let's hope not. Let's hope that MLS (adminstration) can extract their collective heads from their collective rectum(s) and come up with a form of free-agency that the MLS Players Association can live with. It is now well beyond time for the League to step up to being a 'big' League. The minimum salary is--and has been--a total joke; and this claim of $100 million in losses by the single entity League is a load of horse-poop. Sure, the League is probably not consistently in the Black; but the efforts, hard work, and sacrifice of the MLS players through the years need to be finally acknowledged and rewarded in some capacity. As the band 'Midnight Oil' sings, "The time has come to say 'Fair's Fair'...to pay the rent now; to pay our share." (Thanks, Mike Taylor)
My teams are struggling: HWITAT--The Bruins are old, slow, and hanging on by a thread. Liverpool is terribly inconsistent. Bayern are 'sketchy' at this point. Maybe it's time to start going to church again.
My Clubs are cranking up again after the Winter 'break': HWITAT--Tennessee Soccer Club, Northern Warren County Alliance, and Ohio Galaxies FC begin GK training again within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Really looking forward to it. I love training young GKs, and it's been too long since our last training sessions. Bundle up, Kids....it's gonna' be cold out there!
USWNT v England today: HWITAT--Good Luck to our Ladies tonight (in London)! You don't need Hope Solo. Keep the ball in the attacking half of the pitch, and score goals.
May the ground beneath your dive be soft. May the other team hit everything right at you. May your goalposts be 3 feet wide.
All the Best--EV
