Well, we've made it through another week.......and Here's What I Think About That:
Congratulations to Tim Howard! HWITAT: He was elected the US Men's Soccer Athlete of the Year. And VERY well deserved. No one else could really even come close. He had an outstanding World Cup in Brazil, and continues his reign as one of the top GKs in Europe with his play at Everton.
Klinsmann under extreme soccer scrutiny. HWITAT: He should be. For his coaching results, and maybe more importantly for his continual complaining about where US Soccer is....and he's USSF (United States Soccer Federation) Technical Director!!!! So, maybe stop complaining, Jurgen. An old Japanese business adage: Better to fix the problem, rather than fix the blame. (I paraphrase)
NCAAs continue. HWITAT: As I've said many times, if you have a chance to attend an NCAA Soccer Tournament match--by all means DO SO! Men's and Women's tournaments (all 3 Divisions) are well underway.
My good friend, Pat Johnston--noted soccer author--returns from England this weekend. HWITAT: I will be VERY interested to get Pat's take on the US performances against Colombia and Ireland. Watch this space.
Showcase tournaments begin. HWITAT: GKs, always do everything with purpose, dispatch, and sharpness! From pre-game warm-ups to in-hotel conduct. You never know who is watching........you never know.
May the ground beneath your dive be soft. May the opponent always shoot right at you. May your goalposts be 3 feet wide.
All the Best--EV
