By now you know that the US Men's National Team went into Cologne and beat host Germany 2-1 yesterday.
Wow! Yup, you read it right......2-1.
So, is this the start of a new trend in USMNT ability? Is this a 'New Beginning'? Is this the 'Promised Land' we've heard so much about? Perhaps.
There is no doubt that the USMNT is playing very well--overall--right now. We are getting results that we never have before, and we're getting those results away from home! Kudos to the players and staff. Perhaps Jurgen Klinsmann is beginning to realize that fight and spirit, determination and grit, are a HUGE part of the American team. Perhaps Jurgen is beginning to embrace that. Look at the two wins, both due to late substitutions, and late goals. Both wins can be attributed to that "Never Say Die" attitude that we Americans hold so dear. In both matches--Holland and Germany--we never stopped working. We never stopped running. We never stopped attacking.
NOW......that may not be as evident in a true competitive environment where JK doesn't have the luxury of 6 substitutions. We shall see in the upcoming tournaments this Summer where we will be allowed only 3 substitutes. It may well change JK's tactical approach to the game--as well it should. But the enlightening thing about these 2 last 'Friendlies" is that Klinsmann seems to have embraced the intangibles that an American team bring to the football/soccer pitch; and is allowing the 'recipe' to flourish. Oh, we still have problems....our back 4 were not all that solid in these 2 games, for sure--and that needs serious attention--but we seem to have found a new approach to our attack which is SOOOOOOOOOO refreshing!
Here's to our USMNT successes! Well done, Boys!
May the ground beneath your dive be soft. May the other team shoot straight into your arms. May your goalposts be 3 feet wide.
All the Best--EV
