The US Men's National Team plays Ireland today in an International "Friendly" which will be the last International match for the US of 2014. It will be very interesting to see who Jurgen Klinsmann selects; and more interesting still, to see how we (USMNT) do. I had predicted a 1-1 draw for the US v Colombia match and I was wrong. USA lost 2-1. And USA was trapped in their end for most of the game--certainly for almost all of the 2nd half. In truth, we looked like a team in the middle of the proverbial 'rebuilding' process.
So, let me predict that we will play to a 1-1 draw against Ireland. Maybe a 0-0 draw. Although, I must admit that I feel that this is a match we could win...which would be great. It would give all of us a small ray of hope that things are beginning to "build" as we begin our gradual ascent toward WC 2018. I hope we can pull one out--but let's be honest--we looked VERY impotent in attack.
In MLS news....we are into the semi-finals. And I stand by my prediction of earlier this Summer.......LA Galaxy win the title for 2014. Problem is, who really cares? We have to figure out a better MLS Play-off system. At the very least we have to figure out a different calendar....just too much stuff going on in late November/early December. You've heard me state many times before, that MLS needs to go to the 'World Calendar' of football/soccer. I truly believe that. It would be--in the long run--better for MLS.
College soccer play-offs are under way. Some good soccer out there, folks. If you can, go watch some of these Tournament games. A great way to support our game.
My High School coach used to tell us, 'it's a simple game...Shoot. Score. Win.' As a matter of fact, those words were a cheer that the cheerleaders used (when they showed up at our State Tournament Playoffs games....they didn't come to our regular-season games) "Shoot, Score, Win! Goooooooo BlueHawks!" (GKs have time to listen to/watch the cheerleaders sometimes...). So. USMNT.....Shoot. Score. Win! Good luck and 'Go USA!'
May the ground beneath your dive be soft. May the forwards always shoot right at you. May your goalposts be 3 feet wide.
