As you know, the US Women's National Team squares off against Colombia tonight in the knock-out round of the Women's World Cup.
The reason I say "Unsure Territory" is that this USWNT hasn't been the overwhelming team that the US has fielded in past tournaments. We've been winning, but we haven't been firing on all cylinders for sure. Tonight should be a good game, and a good test for the US. The stage is certainly set for USWNT to 'ignite' and get on a roll and begin a steady ascent through to the Final. But, we (USWNT) haven't done anything to instill a lot of confidence. We're winning games by a goal, and scratching out late wins. But, remember what my old college coach Hank Steinbrecher used to say..."The mark of good team is to play poorly and win". And I won't go as far as to say that the US has played poorly, but they certainly haven't been in the 'cake walks' of yesteryear that we're used to. I think we win 2-1; maybe in extra-time.
Colombia is a team that is on the rise, and they are "feeling their oats", and are talking a bit of trash; but when you think about it....why not? Colombia is playing with house-money. If they play well and pull off the upset--they're brilliant. If they play well and lose by a goal--they're still brilliant. If they get blown out by multiple goals--well, they weren't supposed to win in the first place. So, why not play the brash, young upstart role and go at the US tonight and see what happens? That is why I think tonight's match will be very entertaining. I think it will be end-to-end and fast paced. I think Colombia will score, but I think Hope Solo will again come to the rescue and keep us in the match and give us a chance to win.
Again, I see the US wining by a score of 2-1.
What do YOU think?
May the ground beneath your dive be soft. May the other team shoot right at you. May your goalposts be 3 feet wide.
All the Best--EV
